Inspired by the choreography of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, this project explores movement as a spatial and structural system. Through rotoscoping, mapping, and material experimentation, the dancers’ interactions were translated into curves, tensions, and evolving geometries.

Their choreography was interpreted as two interdependent systems revolving around a shared axis, negotiating control and fluidity, rigidity and softness. Iterative explorations responded to the constraints of fabrication: creating a self-supporting model that touches all sides of a 25 cm cube without adhesive. The resulting form captures choreography not as frozen motion, but as a continuous spatial dialogue.

Concept

At the core of the project is the idea that movement is not just performance, but an architectural condition.
The choreography of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers is defined by precision, flow, and continuous negotiation between two bodies in space. This project interprets that relationship as a spatial system, where tension, alignment, and separation become tools for generating form.

Methodology

The project was developed through a series of analytical and design processes:
Rotoscoping: tracing movement sequences from film to capture spatial trajectories
Mapping: translating motion paths into diagrams of force, rhythm, and density
Spatial translation: converting diagrams into architectural conditions and spatial sequences
Material experimentation: testing how movement-driven geometries behave in physical form

Outcome

The final outcome is a set of spatial studies that function as both diagrams and environments. These studies explore how choreography can inform architectural order, not as static composition, but as continuous movement frozen in space.

Reflection

This project challenged the boundary between performance and architecture, treating the body as a tool for design rather than a subject within it. It suggests a way of designing where space is not composed, but performed into existence.

Overview

The AVGC Centre is a proposed architectural hub for Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics (AVGC) industries. The project explores how spatial design can support emerging digital production workflows, collaborative creative environments, and public engagement with media-making processes.

The design responds to the growing intersection between architecture and digital culture, positioning the building as both a production facility and an accessible cultural interface.

The café and amphitheatre are integrated to create a layered recreational environment that activates both the ground plane and upper levels. Located beneath the amphitheatre, the café establishes a strong sectional relationship, generating visual connections and spatial interaction between the two programs.

The design expresses fluidity through receding floor plates and a diverging plan, generating a sense of movement in both plan and section. As users move through the building, shifting geometry reveals changing perspectives and creates a dynamic spatial experience. Open, interconnected spaces encourage interaction and collaboration, reflecting the evolving nature of gaming, animation, and digital storytelling.

The amphitheatre functions as an informal gathering space for users throughout the day while also accommodating events, presentations, and performances. Together, these spaces create a dynamic social node that blurs the boundary between leisure, community engagement, and cultural activity.

Crafted Horizons - Corporate Office for an Infrastructure Company, Pune

Crafted Horizons explores the relationship between perception and structural reality. Designed as a corporate headquarters for an infrastructure company in Pune, the project challenges conventional notions of stability by creating a building that appears to defy balance while remaining structurally sound.

The design is composed of a series of offset and cantilevered volumes that generate a visual sense of tension and movement. This deliberate expression of apparent instability reflects the dynamic nature of the infrastructure industry, where innovation often emerges from pushing technical boundaries. Beneath its dramatic form lies a carefully considered structural system that ensures efficiency, stability, and functionality.

The project investigates how architecture can evoke curiosity and surprise while maintaining performance and practicality. By blurring the line between visual perception and engineering logic, Crafted Horizons becomes a symbol of ambition, resilience, and technological advancement.

These projects allowed me to develop my design, modelling, and visualisation skills while exploring computational design workflows.

Alongside Grasshopper, I experimented with optimization and evolutionary algorithms through plugins such as Galapagos and Wallacei, using parametric tools to generate, evaluate, and refine design outcomes.
